Product Description: Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is a perennial herb with soothing properties that is native to Europe and North Africa. The root and leaves of marshmallow contain mucilage, which gives the herb its characteristic slimy texture and makes it useful in a variety of applications.
 
Common Uses: Marshmallow is commonly used to soothe and moisturize irritated or inflamed mucous membranes in the body. This makes it useful for treating a variety of conditions, including sore throat, dry cough, bronchitis, gastritis, and peptic ulcers. Additionally, marshmallow is often used topically to soothe irritated skin and promote wound healing.
 
How to Use: Marshmallow root and leaves can be brewed as a tea or used to make a decoction. To make a tea, add 1-2 teaspoons of dried marshmallow root or leaves to a cup of hot water and steep for 10-15 minutes. To make a decoction, add 1-2 tablespoons of dried marshmallow root to a quart of water and simmer for 30-60 minutes. Marshmallow can also be used in capsule or tincture form.
